College Intern PSE Metrology

Role Summary

Internship delivering hands-on exposure to semiconductor manufacturing metrology, focusing on Critical Dimension Scanning Electron Microscope (CDSEM) operation, recipe creation, and statistical process monitoring.

The intern will work with applications engineers and factory personnel to support measurement consistency, tool-to-tool matching, and process control activities in a high-volume manufacturing environment.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Intended for students currently pursuing an undergraduate degree; no prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary tasks and contributions expected from the intern:

• Learn semiconductor wafer fabrication process flow and the role of metrology in process control.
• Operate and understand CDSEM technology; assist with CDSEM recipe setup and optimization.
• Collect and analyze CDSEM measurement data to support SPC, excursion detection, and yield-improvement efforts.
• Support tool-to-tool matching efforts to improve measurement consistency across platforms.
• Identify trends and anomalies in measurement data and report findings to engineers and technicians.
• Communicate technical results to engineers, applications staff, and factory personnel; assist with customer interactions as needed.
• Document procedures, experiment setups, and results using Excel and presentation tools.
• Work independently on assigned tasks and contribute collaboratively to team projects.

Requirements

• Must-have: Strong interest in semiconductor manufacturing, metrology, and process control.
• Basic understanding of data analysis and statistics; ability to interpret technical data and identify trends.
• Analytical mindset with problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to learn in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Nice-to-have: Familiarity with SPC concepts; experience with Python, JMP, or Minitab; basic knowledge of microscopy or imaging systems.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree (undergraduate) in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Semiconductor Technology, or a related technical discipline. Position is for interns/students.
