College Intern
Applied MaterialsJob Title
College Intern
Role Summary
Internship within Applied Materials Singapore R&D focusing on development and characterization of PECVD-grown hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) thin films for thermal management in advanced packaging. The role combines structured laboratory training with hands-on process development, materials characterization, data analysis, and technical reporting.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship suitable for current college/university students or recent graduates; no prior professional experience required beyond academic laboratory exposure.
Responsibilities
Work under senior researcher supervision to support process development and characterization activities.
- Complete structured laboratory training (~1 month) on thin-film tools and characterization equipment (FTIR, SEM, ellipsometry, XPS, PECVD, electrical measurement tools).
- Prepare, operate, and monitor PECVD growth processes for h-BN thin films.
- Perform materials characterization and record experimental data.
- Design and execute experiments using DOE principles and analyze results.
- Summarize findings in written reports and present results to the project team.
- Follow lab safety and documentation procedures.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes.
- Basic knowledge of materials science, thin films, and semiconductor processing.
- Fundamental understanding of dielectric materials and electrical characterization techniques.
- Familiarity with Design of Experiments (DOE) and basic data analysis.
- Ability to summarize experimental results in written reports and presentations.
- Willingness to work in a laboratory environment and follow safety protocols.
Education Requirements
Current enrollment in a college/university program in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience). The posting targets interns/students rather than specifying a particular degree level.
