CMOS FEOL Reliability Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Role Summary

The intern will support the Fab 8 Reliability Engineering organization in evaluating semiconductor device reliability across advanced CMOS platforms. Work includes analyzing test data, investigating degradation mechanisms, improving qualification and monitoring methods, and collaborating with device, process, yield, and lab teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (student). Suitable for current undergraduates (at least sophomore) or graduate students; no prior years-of-industry experience required.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on data analysis, reliability testing support, and cross-functional collaboration.

• Learn and apply semiconductor reliability fundamentals (HCI, BTI, TDDB, GOI, PRM).
• Support reliability qualification and monitoring activities for CMOS technologies manufactured at Fab 8.
• Analyze wafer-level and fast wafer-level reliability (WLR/FWLR) test data using statistical and engineering methods.
• Develop automated data-analysis, reporting, dashboard, and visualization solutions to reduce manual effort and improve trend visibility.
• Perform data mining, trend analysis, comparative studies, and historical PRM correlation analysis to identify process and device contributors to reliability performance.
• Develop statistical monitoring methods for excursion detection and reliability risk assessment.
• Collaborate with Device Engineering, Process Integration, Product Engineering, Yield Engineering, and Reliability Laboratory teams for qualification and root-cause investigations.
• Prepare reliability assessment documentation, engineering reports, and technical presentations; present project findings at internship conclusion.
• Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security procedures in all activities.

Requirements

Must-have qualifications for candidates and practical constraints for the internship.

• Minimum overall GPA: 3.0; in good academic standing.
• English fluency, written and verbal.
• Availability to work at least 40 hours per week for the internship period.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in teams.
• Effective written and verbal communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Nice-to-have:

• Prior related internship or co-op experience and leadership experience (projects, competitions, clubs).
• Familiarity with semiconductor devices, manufacturing processes, and reliability concepts (WLR, lab testing).
• Experience with Python, JMP, Minitab, Excel, Power BI, or similar analysis and visualization tools.
• Familiarity with statistical data-analysis techniques and interest in leveraging AI/automation to improve workflows.
• Project management skills and ability to navigate ambiguity.

Education Requirements

At least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related technical field through an accredited program. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
