Chip Power Estimation Engineer
Role Summary
Develop architectural power estimation models and the supporting infrastructure to predict chip and board power for NVIDIA GPUs and SoCs. Work cross-functionally with architecture, design, synthesis, timing, circuit, and post-silicon teams to produce validated estimates that inform product and process-technology decisions.
Role contributes to power/performance optimization across consumer, automotive, and AI product lines.
Experience Level
Entry-level - requires 1+ years of relevant experience in power or performance estimation and optimization.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Architect, implement and correlate power estimation models and tools for chips and boards.
- Develop models for use-case power, idle power, and IO power.
- Design tooling and testing methodology/infrastructure around the models.
- Correlate and calibrate models using measured silicon and board data.
- Analyze chip configuration and process-technology trade-offs to optimize power/performance.
- Propose and evaluate Performance/Watt improvements for GPUs and SoCs.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Strong fundamentals in power, including transistor-level leakage and dynamic characteristics of VLSI circuits.
- Familiarity with low-power design techniques: multi-VT, clock gating, power gating, and DVFS.
- Solid background in power estimation techniques, flows, and algorithms.
- Good programming skills; Python preferred. Comfortable with object-oriented programming and design.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to lab power measurement equipment (oscilloscope, DAQ) and board-level power analysis.
- Experience with power analysis EDA tools such as PTPX/EPS.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
