Chip Power Estimation Engineer

Role Summary

Develop architectural power estimation models and the supporting infrastructure for NVIDIA GPUs and SoCs. Collaborate with architecture, design, synthesis, timing, circuit, and post-silicon teams to estimate and optimize chip and board power across product-driven use cases.

Opportunity to influence power/performance decisions across consumer, automotive and AI products.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career - candidates typically have 2+ years of relevant experience in power or performance estimation and optimization.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop, validate, and correlate architectural power estimation models and tools for chips and boards.
  • Model power for use-cases, idle states, and I/O power.
  • Design estimation infrastructure and testing methodologies.
  • Correlate and calibrate power models using measured silicon data.
  • Analyze chip configuration and process-technology options to optimize power/performance.
  • Propose and evaluate performance-per-watt improvements for GPUs and SoCs.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 2+ years of experience in power/performance estimation and optimization.
  • Strong fundamentals in transistor-level leakage and dynamic characteristics of VLSI circuits.
  • Familiarity with low-power design techniques such as multi-VT, clock gating, power gating, and DVFS.
  • Solid background in power estimation techniques, flows, and algorithms.
  • Proficient programming skills; Python preferred. Strong object-oriented programming and design ability.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with lab power measurement equipment (oscilloscope, DAQ) and board-level power analysis.
  • Familiarity with power-analysis EDA tools such as PTPX/EPS.

Education Requirements

B.Tech. or M.Tech. (as stated in the source).
