BT - Design Verification Staff Engineer
QualcommJob Title
BT - Design Verification Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Work on Bluetooth hardware design verification for Qualcomm’s wireless SoCs, focusing on ASIC/VLSI verification for mobile, wearable and IoT products. The role covers testbench architecture, verification planning, test development, RTL debug and closure using simulation, emulation and formal methods.
Collaborate closely with Design, Systems, SoC, Validation and Firmware teams; own IP/block/sub-system verification and mentor junior engineers.
Experience Level
Senior — staff-level engineering role. The posting expects experienced VLSI verification engineers (typically 6–10 years of relevant industry experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include planning and executing verification for Bluetooth HW blocks and subsystems.
- Develop verification strategies and detailed test plans for RTL blocks and subsystems.
- Design and implement testbenches, constraint-random tests, and verification environments (SV/UVM).
- Build, maintain and integrate verification IP and UVM components for complex environments.
- Perform RTL and testbench debugging using tools such as Verdi or equivalents.
- Use simulation, emulation, formal checks and coverage-driven methodologies to achieve verification closure.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design, SoC, System, Validation, Firmware) for design convergence and bring-up.
- Estimate effort, perform feasibility studies, identify and mitigate verification risks.
- Mentor and review work of junior engineers and new joiners.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; education items moved to Education Requirements below.
- 6+ years of VLSI design verification experience; demonstrated ownership of IP/block verification.
- Strong proficiency in HDLs: Verilog and SystemVerilog.
- Proven experience writing efficient constraint-random tests and building medium-to-complex SV/UVM environments.
- Experience with functional verification, functional/code coverage and SystemVerilog Assertions (SVA).
- Experience integrating Verification IP (VIP) and SoC-level integration activities.
- Strong RTL/TB debugging and analytical skills; proficient with Verdi or similar debug tools.
- Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear test plans and technical documentation.
- Nice-to-have: exposure to Bluetooth/BLE hardware, and scripting experience in Perl and/or Python.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, VLSI, Communications or a related engineering field, or equivalent practical experience. The posting lists multiple degree/year combinations (example: Bachelors +4 years, Masters +3 years, PhD +2 years) and also references a minimum of ~6 years VLSI verification experience for some role definitions.
