Board Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Validate next-generation PCB-based products to verify reliability, performance, and compliance against technical requirements. Work with cross-functional hardware and firmware teams to design and execute validation plans spanning power, thermal, timing, high-speed digital design, and host/target interfaces.
Experience Level
Senior level. Requires approximately 8+ years of hands-on experience in hardware testing or board-level design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include ownership of validation strategy, execution of test plans, data analysis, and automation of test workflows.
- Develop and own hardware verification strategy and end-to-end test execution for storage controllers, NICs, switches, and AI accelerators.
- Design, implement, and run validation procedures for power, thermal, timing, and high-speed digital interfaces.
- Perform detailed signal and performance analysis to identify product risks and root causes.
- Author precise test reports documenting results, deviations, and failure analysis.
- Architect and implement automation frameworks for test execution, data collection, and reporting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to communicate findings and mitigate risks.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution.
- Minimum 8+ years hands-on experience in hardware testing (methodologies, planning, execution, reporting) or board-level design.
- Proficiency with lab equipment: oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, thermal chambers, soldering tools.
- Ability to read and interpret complex board schematics and use PCB viewer tools.
- Deep familiarity with bus and interface protocols such as DDR4, PCIe, UART, I2C, and SPI.
- Comfortable working in both Windows and Linux environments.
- Practical experience using Python for test scripting and GitHub for version control.
- Strong test documentation and failure analysis skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with modern AI developer tools to accelerate automation and workflow (example tools mentioned in source).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
