RTL Design Jobs, Level - Mid-Career

Job Title

Bluespec Design Engineer (Haskell)

Role Summary

Design and deliver performant silicon RTL at the full-chip or subsystem level using Bluespec (Bluespec Haskell). Join the Hardware team to implement compute, memory-management, and high-speed connectivity blocks and build reusable libraries and tooling for the hardware/software stack.

Experience Level

Mid-level (open to hires at early, mid, and senior levels). Typical mid-career experience is roughly 3–7 years, though MatX considers candidates across experience bands.

Responsibilities

Contribute to hardware RTL design, libraries, architecture tradeoffs, and supporting tooling.

  • Implement production hardware blocks in Bluespec for compute, memory management, and high-speed interfaces.
  • Develop reusable, parameterized Bluespec libraries that scale across the chip.
  • Explore microarchitecture and implementation tradeoffs to converge on efficient designs.
  • Create and maintain tooling and infrastructure to improve correctness and development velocity for hardware and firmware teams.
  • Deliver well-tested, documented RTL at subsystem or full-chip scope.

Requirements

Core skills and experience required and helpful for success in this role.

Must-have

  • Proficient in Haskell (comfort with monads, typeclasses, higher-order functions and idiomatic functional patterns).
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn Bluespec Haskell quickly.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals: write clean, tested, and documented code; familiar with build systems, version control, and CI workflows.
  • Ability to work on system-level RTL and collaborate across hardware and software teams.

Nice-to-have

  • Existing Bluespec experience.
  • Prior ASIC or FPGA hardware design experience (clock domains, pipelining, state machines, synthesis, timing closure).
  • Production Rust experience.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
