Job Title

Automotive System Engineer (Senior)

Role Summary

Join the System Incubator team to define and develop demos, proofs-of-concept, and system solutions using NXP automotive chips and software. The role focuses on software integration, system studies, and validating solutions on hardware evaluation platforms across domains such as ADAS, in-vehicle networks, connectivity, IVI, and E/E architectures.

Work involves cross-team collaboration, use of simulation and analysis tools, and hands-on prototyping to demonstrate system-level behavior.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting indicates a senior role (no explicit years-of-experience specified).

Responsibilities

The role combines systems engineering, software integration, and hardware validation to produce demonstrable automotive solutions.

  • Define and build demos, proof-of-concepts, and system solutions using NXP automotive hardware and software.
  • Develop and integrate software components to enable application PoCs and system studies.
  • Work on applications such as ADAS, in-vehicle networks, connectivity modules, IVI, and E/E vehicle architectures.
  • Explore and apply automotive standards, analysis and simulation tools, and novel system solutions.
  • Validate prototypes on hardware evaluation boards and correlate simulation/analysis results with hardware measurements.
  • Debug complex multi-hardware system setups and drive issues to resolution with teammates and partners.
  • Prepare and present analysis, visualizations, and experiment data to team members and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other NXP teams and external partners as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience:

  • Software engineering experience on embedded platforms: modern C++, embedded C, and Python.
  • Experience with Linux, CI/CD infrastructure, and test automation.
  • Experience with code review and team-based software development.
  • Practical knowledge of automotive communication standards; hands-on experience with Time Sensitive Networking (TSN) Ethernet and YANG.
  • Experience with ARM-based embedded automotive processors and automotive network devices.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware evaluation boards and building board support packages, kernels, and images.
  • Ability to correlate simulation/analysis results with hardware evaluation outcomes.
  • Software architecture capability to plan integration of new features into existing codebases.
  • Hands-on experience with vehicle-level simulation tools such as OMNEST, ChronSIM, or Pegase.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and communication skills; able to work in multicultural teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Electronics design experience to assist in HW–SW integration issues.
  • Experience with timing simulation tools and other automotive analysis/simulator tools.
  • Familiarity with open-source self-driving software and automotive use cases.
  • Experience with NXP S32 automotive devices and configuration tools (e.g., S32 Design Studio).
  • General familiarity with the semiconductor or automotive industry.

Education Requirements

University (of applied sciences) degree such as BSc, MSc, PDEng, or PhD in a technical discipline (examples: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Technologies) or an equivalent relevant qualification or practical experience.
