Job Title

Automotive Functional Safety Staff Engineer, Digital DesignWare IP

Role Summary

Lead and deliver ISO 26262 functional safety work products for Synopsys Digital DesignWare IP used in automotive systems. Work with IP development teams and automotive customers to define safety architecture, produce safety cases, and ensure ASIL compliance.

The role combines hands-on safety analysis, technical writing of audit-ready documentation, and automation to streamline safety workflows across IP families.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 8+ years of relevant functional safety experience (or equivalent demonstrated experience) with substantial experience in automotive ISO 26262 processes and safety certification.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include producing and maintaining safety artifacts, coordinating with engineering teams and customers, and improving safety processes.

  • Develop and maintain ISO 26262 deliverables: Technical Safety Concept, FMEDA, FTA, DFMEA, DFA, Safety Plan, and Safety Case for Digital IP.
  • Work with IP development teams and customers to align safety deliverables with project schedules and ASIL requirements.
  • Evaluate customer quality, safety, and reliability requirements and translate them into engineering guidance and design constraints.
  • Design and implement automation and scripts to speed FMEDA, fault injection, and reporting workflows.
  • Lead functional safety and quality reviews; produce detailed reports with findings and recommendations for design improvements.
  • Support qualification of embedded hardware or hardware/software systems to ISO 26262 ASIL levels, including ASIL D.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience, plus a few desirable additions.

  • Formal training and hands-on expertise in ISO 26262 functional safety standards and safety work products for ASIL B/C/D.
  • Demonstrated experience with semiconductor development flows and digital design at the IP or SoC level.
  • Proven track record qualifying embedded hardware or hardware/software systems to ISO 26262 ASIL levels, including ASIL D.
  • Proficiency in technical English for writing safety documentation and collaborating with global teams.
  • Experience leading safety reviews and producing audit-ready safety documentation.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with ISO 26262 Part 5, hardware description languages (Verilog/VHDL), AEC Q100, and scripting (Python) for automation.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (typical requirement cited) with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience. The posting also references formal training in ISO 26262 and practical experience developing safety work products for ASIL B/C/D applications.
