Job Title

Automotive Embedded Engineer

Role Summary

Design, implement and validate embedded software for automotive systems, working on ARM Cortex microcontroller platforms and high-performance real-time targets. The role covers requirements, low-level design, implementation, integration and system-level testing while collaborating with hardware and systems teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level - 4+ years of professional embedded software development experience; experience in a semiconductor development environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on development and verification of embedded firmware and drivers for automotive products.

  • Own requirements, design, development and testing phases for embedded software modules.
  • Develop and optimize C code for ARM Cortex microcontrollers and bare-metal real-time systems.
  • Implement and debug device drivers and protocol stacks (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Integrate software with hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers and debuggers; troubleshoot hardware–software interface issues.
  • Use version control and CI tools to manage firmware releases and configuration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and participate in Agile development processes.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience necessary to perform the role.

  • Strong C programming skills for ARM Cortex microcontrollers.
  • Bare-metal programming experience for high-performance real-time systems (FPGA, emulators, or silicon targets).
  • Driver development expertise for one or more: I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, LIN, Ethernet.
  • Experience with Git or similar configuration management tools.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and Atlassian toolset.
  • Electronics skills: reading schematics and basic hardware troubleshooting.
  • Experience using test equipment to debug hardware–software interactions.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Nice-to-have:

  • Knowledge of Java or Python.
  • Experience implementing bootloaders, IPC frameworks, or low-power software schemes.
  • Familiarity with AUTOSAR (MCAL drivers, OS-based applications, configuration and code generation tools like EB tresos).
  • Experience with Zephyr or FreeRTOS.
  • Familiarity with DOORS, Collabnet, DesignSync.
  • Experience with sensor time synchronization, signal processing (radar), or ADAS use-cases.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical field.
