ATE Test Engineer, Sr Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Senior validation engineer responsible for ATE test development and mixed-signal characterization of Synopsys memory interface IP (DDR, LPDDR, HBM) in a hands-on lab environment. Work closely with design and firmware teams to bring silicon from bring-up through production release.
Experience Level
Senior - typically 8+ years of hands-on experience in silicon validation, ATE programming, or mixed-signal test engineering.
Responsibilities
Primary duties focus on development, execution, and debugging of ATE programs and lab-based electrical characterization to ensure IP readiness and production testability.
- Develop and execute ATE test programs for memory interface IP on platforms such as Teradyne, Advantest, Introspect, LTX/Credence.
- Perform electrical characterization using oscilloscopes, BERTs, and network analyzers to capture time-domain signals, eye diagrams, and jitter.
- Debug mixed-signal subsystems (PLLs, DLLs, DACs, state machines) to isolate failures across silicon, firmware, board, and test setup.
- Validate IP against JEDEC specs and automotive qualification protocols (HTOL, ELFR, reliability testing).
- Produce technical validation reports and documentation that inform design, firmware, and manufacturing teams.
- Collaborate with design and firmware during silicon bring-up to identify and resolve issues before release.
- Mentor junior validation engineers on characterization projects, test-program development, and lab equipment usage.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; concise list of core qualifications and desirable additions.
- Must-have: 8+ years of hands-on experience in silicon validation, ATE programming, or mixed-signal test engineering.
- Proven experience programming ATE platforms (Teradyne, LTX, Advantest, Credence, Introspect).
- Deep working knowledge of DDR, LPDDR, and HBM protocols and JEDEC specifications.
- Strong analog and mixed-signal circuit knowledge and ability to analyze verification/simulation waveforms.
- Expertise using oscilloscopes, BERTs, network analyzers, and other lab equipment for electrical characterization.
- Experience debugging benchtop test equipment and IO characterization (jitter, impedance, compliance tests).
- Ability to read VB code for test/automation purposes.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with automotive qualification standards and advanced reliability testing workflows.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent technical field; equivalent practical experience accepted as stated in the posting.
