Job Title
Associate VP - Analog Mixed-Signal Design
Role Summary
Senior technical and people leader responsible for building and leading a new analog mixed-signal design organization in San Diego focused on high-speed and optical transceivers (Optical PHY) for datacenter, metro and long-haul applications.
Accountable for shaping technical direction and culture, supervising engineering and layout activities, coordinating cross-functional execution, and delivering next-generation analog mixed-signal solutions at advanced CMOS nodes.
Experience Level
Senior — leadership role. Typical experience: 10–20+ years in analog/mixed-signal IC design and team leadership; specific posting references 10–15+ years leading teams and 15–20+ years related experience for advanced degrees.
Responsibilities
The role combines technical leadership, management, hands-on engineering oversight, and cross-functional coordination.
- Build and scale an analog/mixed-signal design team in San Diego; recruit, mentor, and coach engineers.
- Set technical strategy and execution plans for next-generation analog design within Optical PHY products.
- Provide technical direction and supervision for circuit design, verification, and layout to meet performance targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (system, digital, layout, test, program management) to ensure project success.
- Lead and participate in design reviews, define and enforce best practices and quality standards.
- Oversee lab testing and prototype evaluation to validate designs against specifications.
- Maintain design documentation and ensure compliance with project requirements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (concise):
- Extensive hands-on analog/mixed-signal design experience: ADCs, DACs, RX/TX, PLLs, filters, bandgap/bias circuits, regulators and related circuits.
- Proven experience leading and scaling cross-functional analog design teams and delivering products at advanced process nodes.
- Strong knowledge of deep sub-micron CMOS technologies and low-power / high-speed design techniques.
- Experience with IC design and simulation tools such as Spectre, SPICE, MATLAB, HSPICE/Hsim, Verilog (or equivalent).
- Lab and prototyping skills to plan and execute testing and debug of silicon.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills, and history of defining engineering best practices.
Nice-to-have:
- Specialized depth or breadth in optical transceiver analog design and experience with high-speed serial links.
Education Requirements
Completed MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering (posting specifies MS or PhD in EE). The posting associates these degrees with 15–20+ years of related experience. No explicit mention of acceptable equivalent-experience language was provided.
