Associate Hardware Engineer
RenesasJob Title
Associate Hardware Engineer
Role Summary
Develop full-custom layout and physical implementation for IO, power, and hard-macro Foundation IP on advanced process technologies. Work with cross-site engineering teams (Vietnam and Japan) to deliver IP deliverables, support chip integration, and meet PPA, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Associate (suitable for recent graduates or engineers with limited industry experience).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include physical layout, verification, and IP delivery for analog, IO, and power-related blocks.
- Perform full-custom layout from schematic to final GDSII release for IO, analog, and low-power control circuits.
- Execute floorplanning, device placement, routing, and hierarchical layout optimization following technology DRC/LVS rules and manufacturability constraints.
- Conduct physical verification (DRC, LVS, ERC, Antenna checks) and debug verification failures.
- Generate and maintain IP deliverables and library files (GDSII, CDL, LEF, Liberty, NDM) and required documentation.
- Collaborate with chip-top, product, and physical design teams to support integration and PPA optimization.
- Analyze and mitigate reliability issues (ESD, EM, IR drop, latch-up) during IP development.
- Contribute to methodology improvements, automation, and productivity enhancements.
Requirements
Key skills and attributes required or strongly preferred.
- Must-have: solid understanding of semiconductor device behavior, CMOS parasitics, signal propagation, and power distribution fundamentals.
- Must-have: strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and in multicultural global teams.
- Must-have: good English reading and communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: familiarity with EDA tools (Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys, Siemens/Mentor, etc.).
- Nice-to-have: experience with Linux/Unix and scripting (Shell, Python, Perl, Tcl) to support automation and flows.
- Demonstrated interest in semiconductor IP development, characterization, and chip integration.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
