Role Summary
Entry-level engineering role within MITRE's Electronic Systems Development group supporting R&D projects for government and industry partners. Work focuses on building proof-of-concept embedded hardware prototypes using FPGA and ASIC technologies.
The role involves hands-on design, implementation, integration, and lab testing of digital hardware and embedded systems.
Experience Level
Entry-level - less than 1 year of related experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development and integration of hardware prototypes and related software components.
- Design and implement proof-of-concept prototype systems on embedded hardware platforms.
- Develop components targeting FPGA and ASIC technologies, including HDL implementation.
- Implement algorithms in software and hardware on embedded systems (C/C++, Python, HDLs).
- Integrate, verify, and test custom prototypes in the lab environment.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and clearances; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must have: Solid understanding of digital system design at the Boolean logic level.
- Must have: Familiarity with basic circuit and electronic principles.
- Must have: Experience with Hardware Description Languages (VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog) and exposure to FPGA/ASIC simulation, synthesis, and implementation tools.
- Must have: Familiarity with programming in C/C++ and Python and strong oral and written communication skills.
- Must have: Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense SECRET clearance.
- Nice to have: Experience with embedded systems, rapid prototyping, signal processing concepts, and MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
