Associate Application Engineer

Role Summary

Entry-level Application Engineering role in the HiRel product group focused on analog and mixed-signal products and on supporting software/firmware for reference designs and demo boards. Works with Marketing, Applications Engineering, and Software teams to define, design, validate and release system-level reference designs and evaluation platforms, under senior engineering mentorship.

Experience Level

Entry-level; 0–3 years of relevant experience (new college graduate or junior engineer).

Responsibilities

The role covers design, validation, documentation, and customer support for analog/mixed-signal reference designs and demo boards.

• Define and design application demo boards and system-level reference designs, including satellite power system references.
• Create schematics, BOMs and PCB layouts (Altium); perform PCB layout as required.
• Collaborate with software teams to develop and test system GUIs and evaluation software.
• Plan and execute characterization and validation tests; compile validation reports and maintain lab notes and test procedures.
• Produce User Guides/Design Guides with schematics, test conditions, performance data and instructions for reproducibility.
• Work with build/production teams to release boards into production and provide required test documentation to contract test houses.
• Support Field Application Engineers, Marketing and Sales on design-in activities and customer demonstrations.
• Train FAEs and provide technical assistance and field-return analysis when needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, authorization, and professional skills.

• Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• 0–3 years of experience in applications or systems engineering in analog IC development or circuit design roles.
• Hands-on experience with schematic/layout tools and EDA; experience with Altium is required.
• Proficient with electronic bench equipment (power supplies, function generators, multimeters, oscilloscopes) and lab troubleshooting for analog/mixed-signal circuits.
• Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to document technical procedures and produce user guides.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience programming to automate lab equipment (Python, GPIB/USB) and familiarity with Java or C.
• Experience with Verilog/FPGA, MCU, DDR interfaces and system-level integration.
• Experience with satellite power systems or aerospace power designs.
• Circuit modeling experience (IBIS, SPICE, SIMPLIS) and familiarity with I2C/SPI protocols.
• Familiarity with FrameMaker or other technical publishing tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
