ASICS Design Engineer, Principal Manager
Role Summary
Lead architecture definition and technical strategy for next-generation Ethernet switch ASICs within the ASICS Engineering group. Own architecture and roadmap for switching and packet-processing subsystems and ensure delivery from architecture through silicon.
Work across hardware, software, and product teams to set performance targets, perform trade-off analysis, and mentor senior technical staff.
Experience Level
Senior — 10 to 15+ years of ASIC design and architecture experience, preferably with merchant silicon or switching ASIC background.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining switch architectures, leading multi-subsystem design, and driving cross-functional delivery.
- Define architecture and roadmap for Ethernet switching and packet-processing subsystems.
- Lead design across forwarding engine, traffic management, scheduling, and resource-allocation subsystems.
- Drive cross-functional alignment with hardware, software, and product teams on features and performance targets.
- Perform performance analysis, modeling, and architectural trade-off studies.
- Mentor and guide senior technical leaders and influence organization-wide engineering direction.
- Oversee execution from architecture through silicon delivery and ensure design quality.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, leadership capabilities, and communication abilities required for successful delivery of complex switch ASICs.
- Deep expertise in ASIC development: logic design, RTL coding, verification, synthesis, timing closure, and physical design flow.
- Deep expertise in Ethernet switch architecture, including forwarding pipelines (L2/L3, ACLs, tunneling), traffic management (QoS, scheduling, shaping), and high-performance packet processing.
- Proven track record delivering complex SoCs or large ASIC projects; experience with merchant switch silicon is highly desirable.
- Strong debugging and system-level problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and cross-functional influence; ability to mentor senior engineers.
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Fluent in both Chinese and English (verbal and written).
- Able to work under tight schedules and stressful situations to meet delivery milestones.
Education Requirements
Master's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering preferred. Minimum qualifications stated: Bachelor's in Science/Engineering or related field with 8+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's in Science/Engineering or related field with 7+ years; OR PhD in Science/Engineering or related field with 6+ years. Equivalent practical experience is accepted where specified.
