ASIC Verification Engineer - Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior verification engineer and technical lead on next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communication ASICs within Cisco’s Acacia team. The role focuses on planning and executing complex verification strategies, building verification environments, improving team processes, and mentoring engineers.

This is a hybrid role requiring three days per week in Cisco’s Maynard, MA office.

Role Summary

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical experience: 7–10+ years in ASIC verification; hiring guidance in the posting expects ~8+ years with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

Primary day-to-day responsibilities include planning, execution, and leadership of verification efforts:

  • Lead development of detailed, comprehensive test plans for complex ASICs.
  • Design and implement verification testbenches and environments (UVM/SystemVerilog/SystemC).
  • Apply advanced and object-oriented verification methodologies to complex designs.
  • Oversee and coordinate execution of test plans across the verification team.
  • Review verification code, coverage metrics, and ensure quality targets are met.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and recommend process improvements.
  • Collaborate with design, firmware, and lab teams to validate silicon and incorporate new test technologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience (concise):

  • Extensive ASIC verification experience and familiarity with industry verification methodologies, tools, and scripting/programming languages.
  • Experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and SystemC for verification.
  • Proficient in C++ and comfortable with object-oriented verification approaches.
  • Strong problem solving, written and verbal communication, and ability to lead technical projects independently.
  • Experience creating verification testbenches, test plans, and interpreting coverage metrics.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM).
  • Experience with C++ templates and in-house IP development.
  • Lab silicon validation experience and formal verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal).
  • Prior experience leading ASIC technical teams.

Education Requirements
