Job Title

ASIC Verification Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)

Role Summary

Senior verification engineer and technical lead responsible for verifying complex ASICs for next-generation 100G–1.6T coherent optical communications products within Cisco's Acacia team. The role focuses on creating verification strategies and environments, ensuring design quality, and delivering silicon-validated solutions for high-speed optical interconnect systems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role that requires independent operation in a fast-paced environment, mentoring other engineers, and collaborating across design, firmware, and lab teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Experience guidance provided by the employer: typically 8+ years with a Bachelor's, 6+ years with a Master's, or 3+ years with a PhD; equivalent related work experience is also considered.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of verification efforts, development of verification infrastructure, and execution oversight for ASIC projects.

  • Lead definition and development of detailed, comprehensive verification test plans.
  • Design, develop, and maintain verification testbenches and infrastructure.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques to complex ASIC designs and supervise execution of test plans.
  • Review verification code, coverage metrics, and contribute to quality assessment of designs.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor team members, and drive process and tool improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate latest test technologies and lab validation practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience followed by concise preferred items.

  • Must-have: Strong experience with SystemVerilog/UVM and object-oriented verification methodologies.
  • Proficiency in C++ and experience with SystemC.
  • Practical experience with ASIC verification methodologies, verification tools, and scripting/programming languages for test automation.
  • Proven ability to lead technical verification projects, communicate effectively, and mentor engineers.
  • Experience in lab silicon bring-up and validation (practical testing of silicon) is preferred but valuable in this role.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Formal Verification tools (e.g., Jasper, VCFormal), DSP algorithms and modulation techniques (e.g., QAM), C++ templates, in-house IP development, and prior leadership of ASIC technical teams.

Education Requirements

Employer specifies degree-plus-experience options: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years — or equivalent related work experience. No specific fields of study or certifications were mandated in the posting.
