ASIC Principal Engineer

Role Summary

Design and architect high-performance blocks for advanced networking ASICs within HPE's networking organization. Work closely with verification and physical design teams to deliver maximum throughput at minimal power in a hybrid setting (approximately 2 days per week on-site).

Experience Level

Senior - the role expects 15+ years of ASIC design experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include micro‑architecture, RTL design, and cross-team collaboration to achieve silicon-quality results.

• Define and architect high-performance blocks for advanced networking ASICs.
• Perform micro-architecture and Verilog RTL logic design to maximize throughput and minimize power.
• Collaborate with verification to develop test plans and assist in debugging test failures.
• Work with physical design to develop timing constraints, analyze timing violations, and implement timing fixes.
• Troubleshoot and debug ASIC issues across design, verification, and bring-up phases.

Requirements

• Strong Verilog RTL coding skills (must-have).
• Knowledge of high-performance memory subsystems and multi-domain clock synchronization (must-have).
• Experience with high-speed serial interfaces (must-have).
• Strong problem solving and ASIC debugging skills; excellent written and verbal communication (must-have).
• Familiarity with Synopsys Design Compiler, Verplex LEC, and Spyglass (desirable).
• Experience designing ASICs for networking protocols (Ethernet, FCoE) (desirable).
• Leadership experience is a plus.

Education Requirements

MSEE or BSEE required. The posting specifies 15+ years of relevant ASIC design experience as part of the requirement.
