ASIC Physical Design, Senior Engineer
Role Summary
Senior engineer on an ASIC physical-design team responsible for implementing RTL-to-GDS flows for complex digital chips. Work includes floorplanning, place-and-route, timing closure, signoff preparation and collaboration with RTL, IP and verification teams.
Experience Level
Senior-level - typically 7+ years of ASIC physical design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include technical delivery of physical design tasks and supporting team execution:
- Lead floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis and routing for digital designs.
- Perform static timing analysis, timing closure and signoff readiness checks.
- Optimize power, performance and area trade-offs and implement power intent (multi-voltage, power gating) where required.
- Integrate IP blocks, manage design constraints and DRC/LVS signoff interactions.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts and tool flows (Tcl/Python).
- Mentor junior engineers and coordinate cross-functional handoffs with RTL, verification and DFT teams.
Requirements
Required skills and experience for immediate contribution, plus useful additional qualifications.
- Must-have: Substantial experience in ASIC physical design and place-and-route flows (typically 7+ years).
- Must-have: Strong expertise in static timing analysis, timing closure techniques and signoff criteria.
- Must-have: Proficiency with scripting for flow automation (Tcl, Python).
- Must-have: Experience with industry P&R and STA tools and flows.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with advanced process nodes (FinFET), power-intent methodologies, DFT or chip-package co-design.
- Nice-to-have: Prior mentoring or technical leadership responsibilities.
