ASIC Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Experienced ASIC physical/backend design engineer responsible for driving tape-out and signoff activities for advanced TSMC FinFET designs. The role interfaces with customers, foundries (primarily TSMC), and internal design/layout teams to ensure manufacturability and on-time delivery.

Position is full-time onsite in Lafayette, Indiana. Relocation assistance is provided.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include managing tape-out and signoff processes and coordinating between customers, internal teams, and foundries.

• Act as the primary interface between customers and semiconductor foundries to ensure successful tape-outs.
• Guide customers through design sign-off and supply required documentation and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with internal design, layout, and engineering teams to ensure manufacturability.
• Prepare, review, and validate designs for fabrication using EDA tools; support DRC/LVS/PEX and signoff activities.
• Support customer engagements during pre-sales and project execution, providing technical expertise.
• Coordinate with foundry partners (primarily TSMC) on specifications, timelines, and fabrication requirements.
• Track project milestones, drive on-time delivery, and maintain accurate project documentation and communication logs.
• Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional capabilities.

• Proven tape-out experience with advanced TSMC nodes (FinFET technologies).
• Strong understanding of semiconductor backend processes and signoff (DRC, LVS, PEX).
• Experience working directly with customers and external partners; customer-facing experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve complex technical issues.
• Familiarity with Linux environments.
• Basic scripting or programming experience.
