Job Title

ASIC Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Work on ASIC physical design from RTL to GDSII, including timing analysis and closure, synthesis checks, partitioning, constraints, floorplanning and flow automation. Join the ASIC-PD team collaborating with P&R, DFT, SI, architecture and other teams to deliver large, advanced-process chips.

Experience Level

Mid-level. NVIDIA is hiring both junior and senior engineers for the team; this opening is suitable for engineers with prior IC implementation or physical-design project experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include timing, synthesis, partitioning, and flow development:

  • Perform static timing analysis (STA) for hierarchical designs and timing closure at partition and full-chip levels.
  • Create and validate timing constraints and timing budgets.
  • Handle special timing domains such as IO, test, and clock networks.
  • Run synthesis, netlist quality checks and formal verification.
  • Develop partitioning, floorplanning and chip implementation flows.
  • Create functional ECOs and timing fixes for signoff.
  • Develop and enhance end-to-end timing closure flow from pre-layout to post-layout.
  • Automate flows and improve methodology across physical design stages.

Requirements

Key qualifications and skills expected:

  • Must-have: Project experience in IC design implementation and familiarity with the physical-design flow (STA, constraints, timing closure, synthesis, floorplanning).
  • Must-have: Proficient English reading and writing.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with EDA tools (Synopsys FC/DC/PT/Formality, Cadence RC Compiler/Genus/LEC).
  • Nice-to-have: Scripting skills in Python, Perl or TCL for flow automation and methodology development.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with large-chip or advanced-process design projects.

Education Requirements

MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Microelectronics preferred (posting notes "MS ... with 1+ year is preferred"). Coursework in circuit design and digital design is mentioned. No alternative degree-or-equivalent language specified.
