ASIC & FPGA Design Engineer, Staff (E4) - Full-time Telework

Role Summary

As a Staff FPGA Designer on the Mission Systems team you will lead hardware development for advanced processing systems, ensure the technical integrity of FPGA deliverables, and coordinate with customers and cross-functional teams. This is a remote telework role supporting defense and aerospace systems.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires approximately 9+ years of relevant experience (or ~7+ years with a master’s) or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of FPGA development and stakeholder coordination.

• Lead FPGA architecture, RTL design, implementation, integration, and verification for advanced processing systems.
• Manage FPGA development process compliance and maintain technical integrity and completeness of deliverables.
• Coordinate customer interfaces and collaborate with multiple stakeholders and engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and lead technical reviews.
• Drive timing closure activities including timing analysis, floorplanning, and pin/bank validation.
• Adopt digital transformation and automation tools to improve development processes.

Requirements

Must-have skills and qualifications.

• Significant FPGA design experience with RTL using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Proficiency with FPGA toolflows such as AMD/Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, or Microchip Libero.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical efforts, solve complex problems, and work with limited direction.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain an Interim Secret clearance prior to start and maintain a final Secret clearance.
• Experience in advanced timing analysis, CDC/RDC mitigation, and timing closure techniques.
• Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, automated builds/regressions, issue tracking, and configuration management.

Nice-to-have:

• DO-254 design assurance, traceability, coverage, audit, or certification experience.
• Experience with AMD/Xilinx FPGA/SoC/ACAP, PolarFire/PolarFire SoC, or Intel FPGA platforms and related IP.
• Knowledge of PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, JESD204, Aurora, SERDES, LVDS, AXI, or source-synchronous interfaces.
• Verification and automation skills (UVM, constrained-random, coverage, formal methods, HIL) and scripting/programming (Python, Tcl, MATLAB, C/C++).
• Program-level skills: estimating, scheduling, risk management, staffing, and cross-discipline coordination.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline is preferred; a master’s degree may reduce the years-of-experience requirement. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of a degree.
