The role focuses on translating system requirements into high-performance, reliable hardware for precision engagement and communication subsystems.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Demonstrated leadership in FPGA design and project management is expected; specific years of experience not specified.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Own end-to-end FPGA development: requirements, architecture, design, verification, implementation, and integration.
- Coordinate with systems engineers, software developers, and hardware integrators to meet system-level requirements.
- Translate system requirements into reliable, high-performance hardware implementations.
- Perform trade studies to select FPGA devices based on utilization, power, and thermal constraints.
- Develop and verify datalink and communication functions through simulation and hardware testing.
- Lead FPGA development projects and mentor team members.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proficiency in hardware description languages: VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog.
- Experience with FPGA simulation, testbench development, scripting, and design verification.
- Experience with embedded SoC integration and hardware validation.
- Hands-on experience with AMD/Xilinx tools and devices, including Versal and UltraScale+ families; Vivado/Vitis workflows.
- Knowledge of the ASIC/FPGA lifecycle: architecture, design, simulation, verification, integration, and test.
- Strong troubleshooting and board-level debugging skills.
- Proven experience leading FPGA design teams or managing FPGA development projects.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in Agile or iterative development environments.
Nice-to-have:
- High-Level Synthesis (HLS) experience.
- Video and signal-processing implementation experience.
- RF datalink waveform design, simulation, and verification experience.
- Familiarity with configuration control workflows (e.g., GitLab).
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent education or practical experience (the posting explicitly allows equivalent education/experience).
