ASIC & FPGA Design Engineer – E2
Lockheed MartinJob Title
ASIC & FPGA Design Engineer – E2
Role Summary
Design and implement FPGA-based architectures for mission-critical defense systems within Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. The role covers end-to-end FPGA development: architecture, RTL implementation, verification, synthesis, board integration, and cross-discipline collaboration to meet performance, timing, and reliability targets.
Experience Level
Entry-level — requires approximately 1+ year of professional FPGA design and verification experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering FPGA designs from requirements through lab integration and verification.
- Translate system requirements into FPGA specifications and architecture diagrams.
- Develop self-checking testbenches; perform unit, functional, and regression verification.
- Run synthesis, place-and-route, and timing analysis; iterate designs to meet constraints.
- Perform trade-off studies on device utilization, power, and thermal considerations.
- Design high-speed serial interfaces and data-path architectures.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, and systems teams to define requirements and optimize architecture.
- Participate in design assurance reviews and maintain design documentation and version control.
- Conduct board-level integration, lab debugging, and troubleshooting.
- Apply circuit-design techniques to validate signal integrity and power distribution.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and practical experience.
- Minimum ~1 year professional FPGA design and verification experience.
- HDL experience: VHDL, Verilog, and/or SystemVerilog.
- Experience with Xilinx/AMD FPGAs and toolsets (e.g., Vivado).
- Familiarity with FPGA simulation and verification tools (e.g., Synopsys VCS, UVM).
- Strong understanding of digital design fundamentals including timing analysis and signal integrity.
- Experience with hardware-software integration and system validation.
- Version control and configuration management experience (Git/GitLab).
- Proficiency with software languages used for test/utility development (C, C++, or Python).
- Effective communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field (specified in the posting). No alternate-equivalent wording was provided.
