ASIC Digital Design Sr. Engineer
Role Summary
Design and develop bare-metal firmware for high-speed SerDes IP and lead silicon bring-up efforts. Work closely with mixed-signal and digital teams to integrate firmware with RTL, validate prototypes, and support customer integrations.
Drive structured firmware development and verification processes, mentor junior engineers, and ensure prototypes meet performance targets from specification through production.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience in bare-metal firmware development and silicon bring-up.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware development, silicon bring-up, cross-team integration, and mentoring.
- Design, develop, and validate bare-metal firmware for NRZ and PAM SerDes targeting high-speed data recovery and serialization circuits.
- Integrate firmware with analog and digital subsystems, collaborating from spec through silicon bring-up.
- Execute silicon bring-up on prototype test chips; diagnose and resolve functional and performance discrepancies between RTL and hardware.
- Mentor junior firmware and digital design engineers on development flows, RTL debugging, and bring-up best practices.
- Maintain documentation, version control, and structured verification handoffs for firmware projects.
- Work with customer support and design teams to resolve integration issues and support SerDes IP deployment into customer SoCs.
- Use AI-assisted tooling (e.g., Cursor) to accelerate development and debugging while preserving engineering rigor.

- 5+ years hands-on experience in bare-metal firmware development and silicon bring-up.
- Strong digital design skills with deep understanding of RTL, synthesis, and timing closure.
- Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on complex projects.
- Experience delivering firmware from specification through silicon validation using structured development and verification processes.
- Effective cross-functional communication with design groups and customer support teams.
- Knowledge of SerDes, Ethernet, or PCIe standards is a plus.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools is a plus.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
