ASIC Design Verification Internship - 16-month Co-op (Summer 2027)
Role Summary
16-month co-op internship on a SerDes ASIC design verification team based in Kanata, Ottawa. The intern will develop testbenches and verification infrastructure, learn industry DV methodologies, and work with senior engineers to verify PCIe/SerDes RTL.
Program starts May 2027; hybrid schedule (2–3 days per week on-site).
Experience Level
Entry-level internship / co-op. Suitable for students early in their technical careers (undergraduate intern).
Responsibilities
Hands-on verification tasks and collaboration with engineering team:
- Develop and extend UVM-based testbenches to verify SerDes ASIC RTL designs.
- Gain working knowledge of PCIe protocol and internal SerDes architecture through implementation and testing.
- Apply DV methodology concepts including RAL, UVM phases, UVM objects, drivers, monitors, and scoreboards.
- Perform waveform analysis and debug designs using industry-standard tools (e.g., Verdi).
- Participate in design reviews and team discussions; work under guidance of senior engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes; preferred items noted.
- Must-have: Strong fundamentals in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Must-have: Familiarity with SystemVerilog for design and verification work.
- Must-have: Proficiency in scripting (Python) for automation and test tasks.
- Must-have: Self-starter attitude, adaptability, and ability to learn complex technical concepts quickly.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with UVM or other verification methodologies prior to the internship.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Currently in 3rd or 4th-year standing in a bachelor's degree program (Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field).
