Job Title
ASIC Design Engineer – Pixel IP DMA
Role Summary
Design high-performance, low-power DMA engines and RTL for Pixel IP within Apple's Hardware Technologies group. The role focuses on pixel processing data movement and requires cross-functional collaboration with architecture, design verification, and formal verification teams to deliver production SoC features.
Experience Level
Senior — requires approximately 10 years of experience in multimedia IP / SoC front-end RTL design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve specification, RTL implementation, and optimization of DMA engines for pixel processing pipelines.
- Specify and implement DMA engine RTL for efficient data movement between memory systems and Pixel IP engines.
- Optimize designs for performance, power, and silicon area trade-offs.
- Work with architecture teams to define interfaces, arbitration, and address-translation mechanisms.
- Collaborate with design verification and formal teams to ensure functional correctness and meet performance targets.
- Perform front-end implementation activities including synthesis constraints, area and power analysis, linting, and logic equivalence checks.
- Document designs and communicate design trade-offs across teams.
Requirements
Concise list of required skills and technologies, plus relevant preferred experience.
Must-have:
- ~10 years of multimedia IP / SoC front-end RTL design experience (senior-level RTL engineer experience).
- Proven experience designing dedicated DMA engines or related data-movement IP.
- Strong understanding of arbitration, address translation, caching, on-chip interconnects, and performance analysis.
- Familiarity with common on-chip bus protocols such as AMBA (AXI, AHB, APB).
- Experience with front-end implementation tasks: synthesis, area and power analysis, linting, and logic equivalence checks.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience applying DMA designs to machine learning, data storage, memory controllers, networking, or image-processing pipelines.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (required as stated). The posting specifies a Bachelor's degree; no additional degree or certification details provided.
