ASIC Design Engineer (Multiple Functions)
QualcommJob Title
ASIC Design Engineer (Multiple Functions)
Role Summary
Design, verify, validate and optimize digital and/or analog IP blocks and SoC components for high-performance, low-power products within the ASICS Engineering team. Work with cross-functional teams to drive implementation from architecture through tape-out and documentation.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Minimum experience expectations start at ~4 years of ASIC design/verification/integration experience; preferred candidates have 6+ years.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include architecture, design, verification and delivery of ASIC/IP components.
- Define, model, design, optimize, verify and validate IP (block/SoC) development to meet system requirements (performance, quality, power).
- Create architectures, circuit specifications, logic designs and system simulations from high-level requirements.
- Execute design flows from RTL through synthesis, place & route, timing and power analysis, and verification; or execute custom circuit design/layout flows.
- Use EDA and implementation tools (e.g., RTL-to-GDS flows, Virtuoso) to deliver multiple complex blocks or SoC/IC packages.
- Collaborate with software/hardware architects, product and program management to develop implementation strategies and meet customer needs.
- Produce and review detailed technical documentation for EDA/IP/ASIC projects.
- Provide guidance to other team members and communicate technical trade-offs to stakeholders.
Requirements
Core technical experience and practical skills required or strongly preferred.
- Must-have: 4+ years of ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related work experience (minimum experience baseline).
- Experience with design verification methods and flows.
- Hands-on experience with ASIC/SoC implementation flows (RTL, synthesis, P&R, timing/power analysis) or equivalent custom circuit design flows.
- Proficiency with scripting and programming for automation and verification tasks.
- Ability to work independently, plan and solve complex problems, and communicate technical information clearly.
- Experience supervising or mentoring other engineers and interacting with senior leadership.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with specific tools/flows such as RTL-to-GDS, Virtuoso, advanced architecture or circuit-level design optimization, and prior work on low-power/high-performance ASICs.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 4+ years of relevant ASIC experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 3+ years; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 2+ years. Preferred fields: Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. The posting allows equivalent combinations of degree and experience as specified above.
