ASIC Design Engineer
BroadcomJob Title
ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on the physical implementation of high-performance CMOS ASICs within Broadcom's Custom Silicon Design Team in Fort Collins, CO. The role spans RTL-to-GDSII design flow through silicon bring-up, focusing on advanced process nodes and multi-hundred-million-gate designs.
The position involves hands-on physical design (floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing), timing closure, physical verification, and collaboration with cross-functional and customer teams to deliver production silicon.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify an exact years-of-experience requirement.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include physical design implementation, verification, and cross-team integration for large ASIC projects.
- Perform floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and timing closure for large-scale ASICs.
- Execute physical verification tasks (DRC/LVS) and support signoff activities.
- Assist timing analysis, power planning, IR/EM checks, and post-route optimization.
- Use commercial and in-house EDA tools to implement and verify designs.
- Contribute to design-flow automation and methodology improvements for deep-submicron processes.
- Support block-level integration, design reviews, and technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and behaviors needed to perform the role; nice-to-have items follow.
- Must-have: Solid understanding of VLSI design, CMOS digital circuit fundamentals, and ASIC physical design concepts (placement, routing, timing).
- Must-have: Proficiency with UNIX/Linux environments and strong analytical/debugging skills.
- Must-have: Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work with cross-functional and global teams.
- Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of TCL; familiarity with Python or Perl.
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to EDA tools such as Cadence Innovus, Synopsys ICC2, Synopsys PrimeTime, and experience with very advanced process nodes and high-frequency designs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
