Job Title

ASIC Analog Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Implement custom analog and mixed-signal ASIC layouts for Micron's tester and controller IP, emphasizing high-speed circuit performance, manufacturability, and reliability. Work closely with analog designers, verification, and CAD teams to deliver production-ready physical designs in advanced process technologies.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically 4+ years of experience in custom analog, mixed-signal, or ASIC layout/physical design.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include physical implementation, verification, optimization, and automation of analog/mixed-signal blocks.

  • Create high-quality custom analog and mixed-signal layouts for high-speed ASIC applications (SerDes, PLL, DLL, TX/RX, clocking, analog front-ends).
  • Collaborate with analog designers to assess layout feasibility and ensure manufacturable solutions.
  • Perform and debug physical verification checks including DRC, LVS, ERC, and antenna rule analysis.
  • Optimize layouts for parasitics, signal integrity, electromigration, ESD robustness, and latch-up prevention.
  • Contribute to layout methodologies, hierarchy standards, and process improvements to increase team efficiency.
  • Develop automation, scripting, and AI-enabled solutions to improve layout productivity and workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve layout environment, CAD, and tool-related issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience; preferred items are noted.

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in custom analog, mixed-signal, ASIC physical design, or IC layout engineering.
  • Practical experience with Cadence Virtuoso or comparable custom IC layout tools.
  • Experience with physical verification workflows and closure (DRC, LVS, ERC, antenna rules).
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor process technologies and analog layout fundamentals to optimize performance and manufacturability.
  • Experience with parasitic extraction and analysis tools (e.g., Quantus Insight, ParagonX) - preferred.
  • Automation and scripting experience (SKILL, Python, PVL) and experience applying AI-enabled tools to improve productivity - preferred.
  • Experience with advanced-node/high-speed layout techniques (FinFET nodes, CML methodologies) - preferred.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is listed as an additional (preferred) qualification. Equivalent practical experience is accepted.
