Apprentice Technical Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Apprentice Technical Engineer
Role Summary
12-month apprenticeship based in Bengaluru focused on VLSI characterization and standard cell library development. You will run transistor-level simulations, analyze circuit behavior, support automated characterization flows, and document results for use by senior engineers and SoC designers.
Experience Level
Entry-level. 0β2 years of experience; fresh graduates are eligible and encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Work under mentorship to perform characterization and verification tasks on digital standard cells.
- Run transistor-level simulations across PVT corners to extract timing, power, and leakage data.
- Analyze schematics and waveforms; debug simulation failures and identify circuit or model issues.
- Execute and support automated characterization flows; review results and flag anomalies.
- Document simulation procedures, results, and technical findings in clear reports.
- Collaborate with library development engineers to improve methodologies and automation scripts.
- Learn and apply Liberty (.lib), Static Timing Analysis, and low-power concepts during library cycles.
- Participate in technical reviews and team discussions to align characterization with IP development goals.
Requirements
Minimum technical skills and behaviors expected for the role. Degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- Strong understanding of CMOS fundamentals: MOSFET operation, inverter behavior, delay, power, and leakage mechanisms.
- Solid knowledge of digital logic: combinational and sequential circuits, flip-flops, timing concepts (setup/hold, recovery/removal).
- Familiarity with at least one transistor-level circuit simulator (for example PrimeSim or FineSim) and ability to read/debug schematics.
- Comfortable in Linux/Unix environments.
- Attention to detail and ownership: ensure results are correct and documentation is clear for handoff.
- Clear technical communication skills for written reports and peer discussions.
- Nice-to-have: basic scripting (Python, Perl, Tcl, Shell), exposure to Liberty format, Static Timing Analysis, or low-power design.
Education Requirements
B.E. or B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, VLSI, Microelectronics, or a related technical field. The posting targets candidates with 0β2 years of experience; fresh graduates are eligible.
