Job Title

Applications Validation & Verification (AVV) Engineer

Role Summary

The AVV Engineer validates next-generation Automotive and Industrial SoC designs using a top-down, system-level approach. The role focuses on creating and executing bare-metal tests that exercise multiple system features simultaneously to evaluate functionality, performance, and power.

The engineer works in the Advanced Technology Integration team on pre-silicon emulation platforms and on real silicon, collaborating with design, validation teams, and field application engineers.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires around 5 years of relevant engineering experience (per posting).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, executing, and documenting system-level validation tests for SoCs.

  • Define validation targets with systems experts and evaluate SoC designs against those targets.
  • Design and document comprehensive test plans for SoC validation.
  • Implement bare-metal tests in C (with some assembly) and support them with scripting where needed.
  • Debug tests and designs on pre-silicon emulation platforms and repeat debugging on real silicon.
  • Measure and analyze performance metrics (throughput, latency, MIPS) and power across operational and low-power modes.
  • Work cross-functionally with design and other validation teams to resolve issues and ensure test coverage.
  • Document test results, issues encountered, flows used, and tools created.
  • Support cross-functional teams and FAEs in responding to customer questions.

Requirements

Must-have technical experience and skills for this role.

  • 5+ years engineering experience in silicon design and/or validation.
  • Experience with digital/embedded design on emulation, FPGA platforms, or RTL simulation.
  • Experience developing and debugging bare-metal C tests; comfortable with some assembly language.
  • Experience debugging on pre-silicon emulation platforms and on real silicon.
  • Familiarity with embedded systems debugging and analyzing digital waveforms.

Nice-to-have:

  • Proficiency in C/C++ and assembly programming.
  • Strong knowledge of computer architectures, DDR interfaces (DDR4/5/LP4/LP5), system interconnects, and digital logic.
  • Experience with hardware description languages and cache/coherency validation.
  • Experience with pre-silicon power measurement, DSPs (C6x/C7x), TI SoCs, and automation/scripting (regular expressions).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, ECE, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (as listed in the posting).
