Applications Engineering, Staff Engineer DFT
Role Summary
Staff-level Applications Engineer focused on Design for Test (DFT). The role is part of the Test Applications Engineering team within the Technical Sales Group and delivers DFT solutions for digital IC designs, from design planning through silicon bring-up.
The position involves customer-facing technical work, design integration, validation of test logic and patterns, and collaboration with solution architects to productize test technologies.
Experience Level
Senior - staff-level. Typical experience: BSc with 7+ years or MSc with 5+ years of relevant experience (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide DFT expertise during design planning, budgeting, and implementation.
- Perform test methodology design-rule checks during RTL stages.
- Implement and validate DFT techniques such as scan compression, core wrapping, and logic & memory BIST.
- Generate and validate ATPG patterns, including advanced fault models.
- Participate in customer design and flow reviews to ensure integration and tape-out readiness.
- Analyze and debug diagnostics to resolve test and silicon issues.
- Deliver high-quality test logic and test patterns to support tape-out and silicon bring-up.
- Provide technical support and training to customers and internal stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience (degree requirements are under Education Requirements):
- Experience with RTL coding, DFT insertion, scan synthesis, and ATPG.
- MBIST architecture planning and memory test experience.
- Strong knowledge of pattern generation and silicon bring-up processes.
- Familiarity with test protocols such as IEEE 1149.x, IEEE 1500 and IEEE 1687.
- Proven problem-solving and debugging abilities for complex diagnostics.
- Effective communicator and customer-facing technical support skills.
- Experience participating in design reviews and productizing test technologies.
Education Requirements
BSc with 7+ years or MSc with 5+ years of relevant experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or other related technical fields.
