Applications Engineering, Principal Engineer
Role Summary
Principal individual-contributor Application Engineer focused on Digital Design Verification. Work with customers, Sales, R&D and field teams to drive adoption of Synopsys verification solutions, support technical evaluations, and resolve verification issues in customer designs.
Based in the UK (Theale/Reading area), the role supports major accounts and provides technical guidance that influences product and methodology improvements.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 8–13 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include customer engagement, pre-sales technical support, debugging verification flows, and relaying technical feedback to product teams.
- Engage directly with customers to assess verification needs and propose solutions.
- Support pre-sales activities: demos, technical evaluations, benchmarks, and methodology guidance.
- Improve customer verification flows and testbench architectures.
- Debug RTL and gate-level simulation issues and SystemVerilog/UVM environments.
- Analyze functional and code coverage and identify gaps.
- Develop and debug SystemVerilog assertions.
- Collaborate with Sales to grow product adoption and identify opportunities.
- Act as the technical voice of the customer to R&D and product teams.
Requirements

- Typically 8–13 years of relevant verification or applications engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of Verilog/SystemVerilog, UVM, coverage methodologies, and assertions.
- Experience debugging RTL and gate-level simulations and complex SystemVerilog/UVM environments.
- Proven ability to analyze functional and code coverage data.
- Strong problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites, typically one to two days per week.
- Nice-to-have: prior customer-facing, pre-sales, or technical support experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
