Applications Engineering Engineer

Role Summary

Provide hands-on technical support for customers using Synopsys EDA Design Implementation and Verification tools, focusing on ASIC physical design flows from floorplanning to tapeout. The role is part of the Applications Engineering team in Ho Chi Minh that troubleshoots tool behavior, helps customers deploy solutions, and collaborates with R&D to validate fixes.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career - typically 0–3 years of relevant experience; suited for engineers building expertise in ASIC physical design and customer-facing technical work.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include direct customer support, debugging design issues, and contributing to internal knowledge for implementation flows.

• Own technical customer cases from investigation through resolution; debug tool behavior and analyze design data.
• Troubleshoot physical design flows: floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing, and timing closure.
• Collaborate with R&D to escalate complex issues, validate fixes, and communicate product requirements.
• Help customers optimize implementation methodologies to improve PPA and meet tapeout schedules.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, application notes, and best practices based on field engagements.
• Maintain proactive customer follow-up and build long-term technical relationships.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and abilities for immediate contribution.

Must-have:

• Understanding of ASIC physical design and implementation methodologies (floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing, static timing analysis).
• Working knowledge of Verilog and digital design fundamentals.
• Experience with Linux/Unix environments and scripting (Tcl, Python, Perl, or Shell).
• Strong English communication skills, written and verbal, for cross-team and customer interactions.
• Problem-solving and debugging skills; ability to triage vague customer issues into actionable diagnostics.
• Customer-facing mindset and willingness to follow through until issues are resolved.

Nice-to-have:

• Exposure to Synopsys Fusion Compiler, ICC2, or related signoff tools.
• Previous application engineering or customer support experience for implementation flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
