Applications Engineering Consultant – FPGA Prototyping
Role Summary
Customer-facing applications engineer working with the Americas sales team to drive adoption and deployment of Siemens FPGA prototyping hardware and software. The role combines hands-on technical work, pre-sales support, and customer enablement to ensure successful evaluations and long-term deployments.
Experience Level
Senior — expects 7+ years of relevant experience in design, verification, simulation, emulation or prototyping of electronic chips and systems, or equivalent applications engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership during customer engagements and support sales activities across North America.
- Drive technical sales and product evaluations by working directly with customers and account teams.
- Deploy and configure Siemens FPGA prototyping hardware and software at customer sites and remotely.
- Troubleshoot customer issues, remove technical obstacles, and optimize design flows.
- Deliver technical presentations, demos, training, and product updates to customers.
- Capture customer feedback and communicate technical requirements to product and marketing teams.
- Build and maintain technical relationships with customer engineering teams.
- Support cross‑platform solution positioning and integration efforts.
- Travel within North America as required (approximately 10%).
Requirements
Core technical skills and industry experience required for successful performance in this role.
- 7+ years of industry experience in chip and system design, verification, simulation, emulation or prototyping, or recent applications engineering experience.
- Hands-on RTL design and verification experience with SystemVerilog, Verilog, and VHDL.
- ASIC and/or FPGA implementation experience (synthesis, place & route).
- Proficiency with scripting (Python, Perl, shell scripts, Makefiles) and data formats (XML, JSON).
- Proven experience with FPGA design flows and tools — proFPGA, HAPS, Xilinx Vivado, Altera/Intel Quartus (industry FPGA tool experience is required).
- Experience with simulation/debug environments (Questa/Incisive/VCS) and verification methodologies (OVM/UVM).
- Ability to extend or integrate tools via scripting, APIs, or environment configuration.
- Strong communication, presentation skills, and ability to influence technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of EDA tools, workflows, and competitive differentiation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (BS or MS in EE, CE, CS or related areas). Not specified whether equivalent practical experience is accepted.
