Applications Engineering Consultant, FPGA Prototyping

Role Summary

Provide technical pre-sales and post-sales support for Siemens FPGA prototyping hardware and software, working with the Americas sales team to drive evaluations, deployments, and customer success. The role involves hands-on deployment, troubleshooting, demos, and product feedback.

Hybrid role based in Austin, TX supporting semiconductor and electronic customers across North America; travel approximately 10%.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 7+ years experience in chip or system design, verification, simulation, emulation, or FPGA prototyping.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical sales support, customer deployment, and product feedback.

  • Work with sales and account teams during product evaluations to meet technical milestones.
  • Deploy Siemens FPGA prototyping hardware and software at customer sites and remotely.
  • Troubleshoot customer issues and remove technical obstacles during evaluations and deployments.
  • Deliver technical presentations, demos, and training to customers.
  • Collect customer requirements and provide product feedback to engineering and product marketing.
  • Build and maintain peer-level technical relationships with customers to ensure long-term satisfaction.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • 7+ years design, verification, simulation, emulation/prototyping experience or recent Applications Engineer experience in a relevant field.
  • RTL experience with SystemVerilog, Verilog and/or VHDL and ASIC/FPGA implementation (synthesis, place & route).
  • Verification experience with SystemVerilog, SystemC and/or C/C++; experience with simulation tools (Questa/Incisive/VCS).
  • Proficient in scripting (Perl, Python, shell, Makefiles) and data formats (XML, JSON).
  • Hands-on FPGA design and tools experience (proFPGA, HAPS, Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus) required.
  • Experience integrating or extending tools via scripting or APIs; familiarity with EDA tools and design flows.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and map solutions to customer workflows.
  • Willingness to travel within North America (~10%).
  • Nice-to-have: emulation, static timing analysis, and familiarity with competitive EDA environments.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree (BS or MS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
