Applications Engineer - FPGA Prototyping

Role Summary

Provide hands-on technical pre-sales and deployment support for Siemens FPGA prototyping hardware and software to customers in the Americas. Work with field sales, account teams, and product groups to ensure successful product evaluations, deployments, trainings, and long-term customer satisfaction.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting requests 5+ years of relevant experience in design, verification, simulation, emulation/prototyping of electronic chips and systems or equivalent applications engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical selling support, customer deployments, troubleshooting, and knowledge transfer.

  • Work directly with customers and sales teams during product evaluations to meet technical milestones and drive business.
  • Deploy and configure Siemens FPGA prototyping hardware and software solutions on-site and remotely.
  • Diagnose and remove technical obstacles; provide technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations, demos, and customer trainings.
  • Collect customer feedback and communicate technical requirements to product development and product marketing teams.
  • Build and maintain peer-level technical relationships with customer engineering teams.
  • Travel within North America as required to support customer engagements (approximately 10%).

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience are listed first; items noted as "plus" are desirable.

  • Must-have: RTL design experience with SystemVerilog, Verilog, and VHDL.
  • Must-have: ASIC and/or FPGA implementation experience (synthesis, place & route).
  • Must-have: Verification experience and RTL debug using SystemVerilog, SystemC and/or C/C++.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, Perl, shell scripts, Makefiles) and data formats (XML, JSON).
  • Must-have: Industry experience with FPGA design tools and boards (examples: proFPGA, HAPS, Xilinx Vivado, Intel/Altera Quartus).
  • Must-have: Experience with simulation environments (Questa/Incisive/VCS) and verification methodologies (OVM/UVM).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with hardware emulation, static timing analysis, and advanced prototyping flows.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to deliver trainings and demos to customers and collaborate with sales teams.
  • Competitive, customer-focused attitude and willingness to travel for business engagements.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Engineering (CE), Computer Science (CS), or a related technical field.
