Applications Development Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and validate ML/DL-based image classification and analysis applications for high-volume semiconductor inspection systems. Work within the LS-SWIFT division of KLA's Global Products Group to evaluate algorithm prototypes, implement software feature tests, and support customer deployments.
The role requires frequent customer engagement and travel (up to 50%) to support product evaluation and integration in fab environments.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Experience guidance: Bachelor’s +7 years, Master’s +5 years, or PhD +2 years of related work experience (per employer's minimum-qualification scale).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Apply ML/DL techniques to image classification and defect-detection problems in high-volume manufacturing.
- Design, run, and document software feature tests and benchmark algorithm prototypes.
- Debug and maintain Python scripts used for data processing, model evaluation, and automation.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and field teams to integrate algorithms into inspection systems.
- Analyze results, produce technical reports, and recommend improvements to models and workflows.
- Provide technical support and training at customer sites; travel up to 50%.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills:
- Hands-on experience applying ML/DL on image classification problems in manufacturing or similar production environments (must-have).
- Experience in software feature testing and in-depth evaluation of algorithm prototypes (must-have).
- Proficiency reading and debugging Python scripts (must-have).
- Strong technical and analytical skills; ability to interpret model performance and measurement data (must-have).
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills (must-have).
- Willingness to travel approximately 50% for customer support and field validation (must-have).
- Familiarity with vibecoding and AI prompting best practices (nice-to-have).
- Background in IC processing or semiconductor equipment with emphasis on advanced packaging (nice-to-have).
Education Requirements
