Job Title
Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead technical development of custom ASICs from architecture through silicon bring-up for advanced computing and control platforms. This role owns ASIC strategy, drives trade-offs across performance, power, area, cost and schedule, and collaborates with hardware, software, systems, and manufacturing partners.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 10+ years of hardware design experience, with multiple full ASIC cycles and tape-outs.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include leading ASIC programs, coordinating cross-functional teams, and delivering production-ready silicon.
- Define and establish ASIC development methodology across architecture, RTL, verification, implementation, and tape-out.
- Lead end-to-end ASIC development: microarchitecture, RTL development, integration, validation, and silicon bring-up.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring for an ASIC engineering team.
- Coordinate with external design, fabrication, and manufacturing partners to ensure project execution and manufacturability.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems teams to translate requirements into optimized silicon solutions.
- Drive technical trade-offs across performance, power, area, cost, and schedule.
- Manage subsystem roadmaps and delivery schedules for commercial and advanced technology programs.
- Support FPGA-based development and migration from FPGA prototypes to production ASICs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for successful candidates.
- 10+ years of hardware design experience, with proven delivery of multiple ASIC development cycles and tape-outs.
- Experience transitioning FPGA designs to ASIC implementations and supporting FPGA-based development.
- Strong RTL design expertise, ideally in SystemVerilog.
- Experience implementing complex DSP functions in hardware.
- Familiarity with ASIC development flows, semiconductor process technologies, fabrication partners, and EDA toolchains.
- Experience with industry-standard tools such as Cadence, Synopsys, or Siemens EDA.
- Strong understanding of FPGA architectures, microprocessors, and digital system design.
- Mixed-signal design experience is highly desirable.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (as stated in the source).
