Job Title
Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) Design Engineer
Role Summary
Lead technical ASIC design and delivery for custom silicon used in advanced computing and control platforms. The role owns end-to-end ASIC strategy from microarchitecture through silicon bring-up and coordinates across hardware, software, systems, and external partners.
Work within a small, multidisciplinary engineering organization to translate system requirements into production-ready ASICs and shape the long-term silicon roadmap.
Experience Level
Senior β requests candidates with substantial experience; the posting specifies 10+ years of hardware design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of ASIC projects, cross-team coordination, and delivery of production silicon.
- Define and establish ASIC development methodologies across architecture, RTL design, verification, implementation, and tape-out.
- Lead end-to-end ASIC development: microarchitecture, RTL development, integration, validation, and bring-up.
- Mentor and grow a small ASIC engineering team; provide hands-on technical leadership.
- Coordinate with external design, fabrication, and manufacturing partners to execute projects.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, software, and systems teams to meet system-level requirements.
- Drive trade-off decisions across performance, power, area, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Manage subsystem roadmaps and delivery schedules for commercial and advanced-technology programs.
- Support FPGA-based development and lead migration from FPGA prototypes to production ASICs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 10+ years of hardware design experience, with multiple full ASIC development cycles delivered through tape-out and silicon validation.
- Proven experience transitioning FPGA designs into ASIC implementations.
- Strong RTL design skills, ideally using SystemVerilog.
- Experience implementing complex digital signal processing (DSP) functions in hardware.
- Knowledge of ASIC development flows, semiconductor process technologies, fabrication partners, and EDA toolchains (Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens EDA, etc.).
- Strong understanding of FPGA architectures, microprocessors, and digital system design.
- Demonstrated ability to drive technical trade-offs and manage cross-functional delivery.
- Nice-to-have: mixed-signal design experience and prior experience in a technical leadership or principal engineering role.
Education Requirements
MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline (the posting specifies MS or PhD). No other degree or equivalent-experience language was provided.
