Application Solutions, Semiconductor Process and Device Simulations (TCAD)
SiemensJob Title
Application Solutions, Semiconductor Process and Device Simulations (TCAD)
Role Summary
Researcher and application engineer on the Calibre R&D team focused on physics-based process and device simulation for semiconductor manufacturing. The role develops, validates, and deploys process and device models to support advanced technology nodes and production diagnostics.
Work with internal R&D and external customers to translate manufacturing and device problems into simulation approaches, deliver robust numerical solutions, and support high-volume manufacturing use cases.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical candidates will have several years of relevant research or industry experience (guidance: ~5+ years of applied experience in semiconductor process/device simulation or related fields).
Responsibilities
Deliver technical solutions and simulations that support semiconductor process and device development and manufacturing.
- Develop and validate physics-based models for process and device behavior.
- Implement and integrate unit-process modules (e.g., dry etch, wet etch/clean, CVD, PVD, ALD, CMP, epitaxy, ion implantation, annealing) into simulation flows.
- Build or improve metrology models for optical scatterometry, ellipsometry, and electron-beam (SEM) measurements.
- Support Design-Technology Co-optimization (DTCO) and multi-physics device studies for advanced logic, memory, and 3DIC packaging.
- Estimate task scope and schedules, manage deliverables, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers; prepare technical reports and presentations.
Requirements
Skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Proven ability to build and apply physics-based models to real-world semiconductor problems.
- Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication process modules and integration flows for advanced technologies.
- Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and multi-physics effects (carrier transport, reliability mechanisms, etc.).
- Experience with semiconductor metrology techniques (optical scatterometry/ellipsometry, SEM-based methods).
- Strong problem-solving, task estimation, project delivery, and written/verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative mindset and experience working with customers or cross-functional engineering teams.
- Nice-to-have: prior exposure to EDA/TCAD tool development, DTCO projects, or work targeting advanced nodes (e.g., sub-2nm logic, 3D NAND, 3DIC, advanced DRAM).
Education Requirements
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering/physics field is preferred; alternatively, MS plus 5+ years of relevant research or industry experience is acceptable. Equivalent practical experience in semiconductor process/device modeling is considered.
