Application Solutions Engineer - Semiconductor Process and Device Simulations (TCAD)
SiemensJob Title
Application Solutions Engineer - Semiconductor Process and Device Simulations (TCAD)
Role Summary
Join the Calibre R&D team to develop and apply physics-based process and device simulation tools that support semiconductor manufacturing and device performance analysis at advanced technology nodes.
The role combines research, application engineering, tool development, and customer collaboration to produce high-fidelity, high-throughput simulations for advanced logic, memory, and packaging technologies.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Candidates are expected to have advanced technical experience (see Education Requirements for degree guidance); equivalent industry research experience is considered.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement physics-based models and numerical simulation methods for process and device behavior.
- Build and optimize high-throughput simulation workflows to support production and DTCO analysis for advanced nodes (logic, 3D NAND, DRAM, CIS, 3DIC).
- Integrate and model unit process modules (etch, deposition, CMP, implantation, annealing, epitaxy, etc.) and validate against metrology data.
- Perform device and multi-physics simulations addressing band-structure, carrier transport, and reliability issues.
- Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams and customers to define requirements, estimate task scope/timelines, and deliver solutions on schedule.
- Document results, prepare technical reports, and present findings to internal teams and external partners.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Demonstrated ability to build simplified, physics-based models for complex semiconductor processes and devices.
- Practical experience with semiconductor fabrication processes and integration flows (plasma dry etch, wet etch/clean, CVD/PVD/ALD, CMP, epitaxy, ion implantation, annealing).
- Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, carrier transport, and reliability mechanisms (BTI, TDDB, SHE, EM/IR).
- Experience with semiconductor metrology techniques (optical scatterometry, ellipsometry, e-beam/SEM) for model validation.
- Ability to estimate project complexity and timelines, strong problem-solving, and effective communication/team collaboration skills.
- Experience applying simulations to advanced technologies (FinFET/NSFET/CFET, 3D NAND, DRAM, 3DIC, CIS) is expected.
Education Requirements
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or related engineering field preferred; alternatively MS plus 5+ years of relevant research or industry experience (Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar). (This listing explicitly accepts PhD or MS + 5+ years of research/industry experience.)
