Job Title
Application Engineering Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Senior technical engineer responsible for driving customer adoption and support of implementation (RTL-to-GDS) flows within Synopsys' Silicon Design & Verification business. Works with customers, R&D, and product teams to diagnose and resolve synthesis and place-and-route issues and to enable robust chip delivery.
Experience Level
Senior level. The role expects candidates with substantial hands-on implementation experience (typically 6+ years with a B.Tech-equivalent or 4+ years with an M.Tech-equivalent, per the employer's guidelines).
Responsibilities
You will provide expert implementation guidance, hands-on debugging, and enablement for customer projects and internal teams. Key responsibilities include:
- Drive global customer adoption of Synopsys implementation products by providing expert guidance on RTL-to-GDS flows.
- Deliver technical support and solutions for flagship customer projects, including on-site troubleshooting when required.
- Participate in technical campaigns: benchmarks, deployments, and flow enablement.
- Advocate for customers by communicating requirements and feedback to product development and influencing roadmaps.
- Author and maintain technical knowledge-base articles and documentation to support customers and front-line teams.
- Roll out new product methodologies through training and ongoing technical support.
- Collaborate with R&D to translate customer challenges into product enhancements and solutions.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; optional items labeled where appropriate.
- Deep expertise in implementation methodologies and physical design, with hands-on experience in RTL-to-GDS flows and debugging synthesis and place-and-route issues.
- Extensive experience with Synopsys implementation tools (e.g., Fusion Compiler, ICC-II) or equivalent toolchains.
- Proficiency in scripting: Tcl, Unix shell, and Perl. Knowledge of Python is a strong advantage.
- Experience with static timing analysis (STA), low-power flows, and design planning.
- Proven track record of participating in multiple chip tape-outs, ideally at 7nm or smaller nodes across multiple foundries.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and prior customer-facing experience.
- Must be able to work independently, travel to customer sites when required, and collaborate cross-functionally.
Education Requirements
Employer specifies a technical degree or equivalent experience: B.Tech (or equivalent) with a minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience, or M.Tech (or equivalent) with a minimum of 4+ years. The posting allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of the listed degrees.
