Application Engineer - Sr Staff, DFT / Design for Test
SynopsysJob Title
Application Engineer - Sr Staff, DFT / Design for Test
Role Summary
Customer-facing senior application engineer responsible for delivering Design-for-Test (DFT) solutions using Synopsys DFT toolset. Works with semiconductor customers to design, configure, and deploy test flows that enable manufacturable, testable silicon.
Collaborates with account teams and R&D to reproduce issues, influence product direction, and automate customer workflows for improved adoption and yield.
Experience Level
Senior - expects approximately 8 to 12 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor design, DFT engineering, or related VLSI design domains.
Responsibilities
Deliver technical solutions and support across customer engagements and internal stakeholders.
- Engage directly with customers to assess DFT challenges, constraints, and timelines; propose and implement solutions.
- Configure and deploy DFT tool flows including scan insertion, ATPG, and verification using Synopsys DFT tools.
- Perform hands-on demos and proof-of-concept implementations tailored to customer designs.
- Develop automation and tool customizations using TCL, Python, or Perl to streamline workflows.
- Collaborate with Account teams to prioritize deliverables and provide technical updates throughout engagements.
- Work with R&D to reproduce issues, provide actionable feedback, and influence product roadmap based on customer needs.
- Keep current with DFT methodologies and semiconductor test strategies to ensure scalable solutions.
Requirements
Core technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Extensive hands-on experience with DFT methodologies: scan insertion, ATPG, and DFT verification techniques.
- Proficiency scripting and automation using TCL, Python, or Perl to customize flows and build tooling around product gaps.
- Proven ability to diagnose complex tool or design issues and drive practical resolutions.
- Experience working directly with customers, translating requirements into technical solutions, and communicating across engineering and management levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to reproduce issues and produce actionable debug cases for R&D.
- Nice-to-have: direct exposure to TestMAX Manager, TestMAX ATPG, Formality, VCS, or other Synopsys semiconductor design tools.
Education Requirements
Master's degree (M.Tech or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
