Application Engineer II — Physical Design, Synthesis and Digital Implementation

Role Summary

Provide application support for Cadence digital implementation flows with emphasis on logic synthesis and physical design. Member of the Global Customer Success (ASK) team in Belo Horizonte, supporting customers to reproduce and resolve design and tool issues, and producing enablement materials.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer support, debugging, optimization, and documentation.

  • Support customers to improve productivity and design quality using digital implementation flows (synthesis and physical design).
  • Debug design, flow, and tool-related issues and reproduce problems with customers and R&D.
  • Apply best practices for timing, area, and power optimization in synthesis and implementation.
  • Collaborate with R&D, senior application engineers, and field teams to validate solutions and improve tools.
  • Develop technical documentation, examples, and enablement materials to promote self-service and tool adoption.
  • Create custom solutions using tool features and basic scripting to address customer challenges.

Requirements

Must-have and nice-to-have technical skills.

  • Must-have: Solid foundation in CMOS fundamentals, digital logic, and RTL design concepts.
  • Exposure to digital design flows (RTL → synthesis → implementation).
  • Basic scripting experience (TCL, Python, or Perl).
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills and clear technical communication.
  • Ability to learn complex technical topics quickly.
  • Nice-to-have: Academic or internship exposure to logic synthesis and/or physical design concepts.
  • Familiarity with static timing analysis (STA) fundamentals and standard cell libraries.
  • Prior exposure to Cadence digital tools (Genus, Innovus) or other EDA tools.
  • Experience with Linux-based development environments.

Education Requirements

Complete Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field is required. Academic or internship exposure to digital/physical design topics is listed as desirable. Equivalent practical experience is not specified.
