Application Engineer

Role Summary

Provide technical leadership and customer-facing support to enable adoption of FPGA solutions from evaluation through production. Work with customers, field teams, distribution partners, and internal engineering groups to resolve implementation issues and drive design wins.

Focus areas include FPGA system design, implementation methodologies, timing closure, high-speed interfaces, and cross-functional escalation to deliver robust, production-ready solutions.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 10+ years of relevant experience in FPGA design, ASIC design, applications engineering, or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical support and drive customer success across development stages.

• Lead resolution of complex technical challenges and optimize design performance and resource utilization.
• Drive timing closure for demanding applications and provide timing analysis guidance.
• Support high-speed interfaces and advanced FPGA capabilities in customer designs.
• Act as an escalation point for difficult design and tool issues, coordinating with silicon, software, IP, and product engineering teams.
• Enable customers to reach first-pass FPGA functionality and successful system integration.
• Reduce time-to-resolution for complex technical issues and support design-win efforts.
• Build and maintain trusted technical relationships with customers, field teams, and partners.

Requirements

Core technical skills and experience required for effective performance in this role.

• Must-have: Hands-on experience developing high-density FPGA or ASIC designs and working with FPGA implementation flows.
• Must-have: Proficiency in Verilog and/or VHDL and practical experience with FPGA design tools and methodologies.
• Must-have: Demonstrated experience with simulation, synthesis, place-and-route, static timing analysis, timing constraints, and timing closure.
• Must-have: Experience with high-speed video and system interfaces such as DisplayPort, HDMI, and MIPI.
• Must-have: Protocol experience with at least one high-speed interface (PCI Express, Ethernet, JESD204, or high-speed serial transceivers).
• Must-have: Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and issue-ownership skills; ability to work effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
• Must-have: Excellent verbal and written English skills.
• Nice-to-have: Experience coordinating with silicon, software, IP, and product engineering teams on escalated issues.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. The role description specifies a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as an alternative to or in addition to formal degrees.
