Job Title
Application Engineer 6 Motor Control
Role Summary
Design, develop and validate reference designs and application boards for industrial motor-control and motor-drive applications using discrete, analog and power ICs. This role sits in the System and Application Team and translates device capabilities into production-ready hardware and collateral to accelerate customer adoption and time-to-market.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting requests a minimum of 5 years' relevant experience; responsibilities align with senior/principal-level activities.
Responsibilities
Core duties include hands-on hardware design, validation, documentation and customer support.
- Design and validate reference designs and application boards for motor-drive applications (stepper, brushed DC, BLDC, PMSM, induction).
- Create schematics, select components and collaborate on PCB layout to meet performance, cost, thermal and reliability targets.
- Perform electrical, thermal and system-level validation: efficiency analysis, switching characterization, transient response testing, thermal profiling, and EMI/EMC pre-compliance troubleshooting.
- Provide application-focused technical support to customers and sales teams; participate in customer engagements and technical events.
- Produce and maintain technical collateral: application notes, design guides, simulation models and user documentation.
- Collaborate with marketing, R&D and system architects to translate customer insights into product requirements and roadmap input.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools and experience; nice-to-have items noted separately.
- Minimum 5 years in application engineering, hardware design or power electronics.
- Proven experience developing reference designs or evaluation boards for motor drives (stepper, brushed DC, BLDC, PMSM, induction).
- Strong understanding of three-phase power systems, inverter topologies, switching behaviour, losses and efficiency optimisation.
- Experience with PCB design and layout tools (Altium, KiCad).
- Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (Matlab/Simulink, LTspice, PLECS) and thermal/EMC considerations.
- Hands-on validation skills: efficiency testing, switching characterisation, thermal profiling, and EMI/EMC pre-compliance troubleshooting.
- Customer-facing experience and strong technical writing and presentation skills; business-fluent English.
- Ability to work in cross-functional and global teams; problem-solving mindset and attention to detail.
- Nice-to-have: experience in robotics and automation systems; German language skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required. Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred.
